The Flex has not been successful, with sales less half the target of 100,000 vehicles that Ford had expected to sell each year. The disappointing sales have been attributed to its polarizing styling and its high price, especially as it was launched in the middle of a severe recession. However, Ford was hesitant to discontinue the Flex, as it can be produced at relatively low cost since it shares the same platform as the Lincoln MKT, Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS. To spur sales of the Flex, Ford is offering "Employee Pricing" (dealer invoice pricing), plus $5,000 CAD in incentives.
