The 1965 Mustang won the Tiffany Gold Medal for excellence in American design, the first automobile ever to do so.
The Mustang was on the Car and Driver Ten Best list in 1983, 1987, 1988, 2005, and 2006. It won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 1974 and 1994.
In 2005 it was runner-up to the Chrysler 300 for the North American Car of the Year award and was named Canadian Car of the Year.

Ford has long fascinated the creation of economic models for the European market, so in Paris, introduced a new technology ECOnetic Technology, which will be used for a number of company cars.
The first model was the Ford Mondeo ECOnetic, which should appear on the market in the first half of 2011. This version is equipped with a 1.6-liter Ford Duratorq TDCi, with a standard makrofiltrom and connected to a mechanical six-speed Ford Durashift.
Ford Mondeo ECOnetic will be complemented by a special aerodynamic package, including a reduced landing and special tires. Standard System Ford Auto-Start-Stop will be refined and expanded systems Improved Flooded (IF) Battery and Voltage Quality Module (VQM).
Average fuel consumption of Mondeo ECOnetic should be less than 4.3 liters. 100 km, with the release of CO2 at 115 g / km.

Mustangs grew larger and heavier with each model year until, in response to the 1971–1973 models, Ford returned the car to its original size and concept for 1974. It has since seen several platform generations and designs. Although some other pony cars have seen a revival, the Mustang is the only original pony car to remain in uninterrupted production over four decades of development and revision

In 2002 John Force broke his own NHRA drag racing record by winning his 12th national championship in his Ford Mustang Funny Car, Force beat that record again in 2006, becoming the first ever 14-time champion, again, driving a Mustang.

For 2011, Ford is revising all the current model Mustang's engines. The new V6 will be a smaller 3.7 L aluminum block engine weighing 40 lb (18 kg) lighter than the outgoing version, and produces a much more powerful 305 hp (227 kW) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) of torque.
The current 4.6L 24V V8 will be replaced by a new 5.0L 32V V8. This new engine will have 412 hp (307 kW) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m) of torque.
The engines will feature advance technologies such as TI-VCT; however direct injection will not be part of the package. The GT500 will be upgraded to a aluminum block 5.4L engine, with 550 hp (410 kW) and 510 lb·ft (690 N·m) of torque.
